Case 1
Symptom: a 2008 annual production FAW - Volkswagen Bora 1.8L manual car, the user reflects the speedometer and odometer does not move.
Check the analysis: first check the speed sensor to the instrument line normal, use the fault diagnosis instrument VAS5051 into the instrument, enter the function code 03 to perform functional tests, you can see the speedometer to work properly, then replace the speed sensor, test troubleshooting. After a few days, the user because of the same fault into the factory maintenance, once again replace the vehicle speed sensor, fault and ruled out. Why is it so? What causes the speed sensor to be damaged in such a short period of time, and certainly there are other causes of the sensor being punctured.
Measure the battery voltage and find the user after installing the xenon lamp. Will not be caused by the failure of this reason? So when the test to open the headlamps, and sure enough the speed table will not move.
Troubleshooting: the xenon lamp generator installed in the distance from the vehicle speed sensor position, and wrapped with tin foil after the fixed, test failure did not appear.
Review Summary: When the headlamp is turned on, the xenon lamp generator generates a very high instantaneous voltage, just as the generator is mounted at a distance from the vehicle speed sensor, so the speed sensor is punctured.

Inspection and analysis: This phenomenon is usually due to the steering column assembly of the intermediate shaft spline part (Figure 1) caused by the lack of lubrication, the need to apply a special spline grease (part number GJYB32GR1). Specific precautions when operating are as follows.
    (1) to confirm the specific position of the steering column abnormal sound.
    (2) Before applying grease, be sure to completely remove the grease on the spline shaft of the steering column to avoid contamination and deterioration of the new grease, thus reducing the service life.
    (3) must be in the steering column of the entire splines and sleeve cavity coated with special grease 3ml, smear must be uniform, can not have accumulation phenomenon.
    (4) Align the process markings of the white paint (Figure 2), reassemble the disassembled countershaft splines, and wipe off excess grease.
Note: If you use other grease, may temporarily solve the problem, but after a period of time may still appear abnormal sound, it must use special grease.
